Members of the European Parliament and Moroccan MPs have commended the constant European stand on the Moroccan Sahara, supporting UN efforts that seek to reach a lasting political settlement on the basis of the Moroccan autonomy plan for the Sahara, a plan described by the international community as “serious and credible”.

The UN Mission in the Sahara (MINURSO) refuses to meet with Polisario leaders outside Rabbouni, in Algeria, the venue where such meetings have always been held, UN sources said on Thursday.

The latest developments in the national issue and the multidimensional partnership with the European Union (EU) are on the agenda of the mission currently being undertaken by the Morocco-EU Joint Parliamentary Committee to the European Parliament (EP) in Strasbourg.

The chairman of the Morocco-Kuwait Parliamentary Friendship Group at the National Assembly, Askar Aouid Al-Anzi, reiterated on Thursday in Rabat, his country's support for the Kingdom's territorial integrity.

The responsibility of Algeria in the conflict around the Moroccan Sahara is confirmed by historical realities and data and positions that have over 40 years of this "artificial conflict", said Thursday in Rabat, Minister Delegate in charge of Relations with Parliament and Civil Society, government spokesman Mustapha El Khalfi.
