The European Union on Tuesday said that its position on the Moroccan Sahara has not changed.

The return of Morocco to the African Union (AU) marks a historic event that will remain engraved in the annals of Moroccan diplomacy, said Mohamed Taleb, member of the Royal Advisory Council of Saharan Affairs (CORCAS).

President of the Republic of South Sudan, Salva Kiir Mayardit, said that the "issue of Sahara is different in its genesis, legal and political background from that of South Sudan,” hailing “Morocco's serious and credible efforts” to reach a political solution to this dispute.

An overwhelming majority of African countries supported the return of the Kingdom of Morocco to the African Union on Monday, January, 30 , at the first plenary meeting of the 28th session of the African Union Summit held in Addis Ababa, capital of Ethiopia.
