UNSC hopes parties engage in substantial negotiations next August

 The United Nations Security Council expressed, on Wednesday, its hope the parties involved in the Sahara issue will use the next round of negotiations, billed for August 10-11 to engage "in good faith in substantial negotiations" to solve the issue.

The United States described Morocco's proposal to grant autonomy to its Southern Provinces, The Sahara, as the "realistic and promising" path towards the settlement of the 30-year-old dispute between Morocco and the Algeria-backed Polisario separatists.

Visiting French president, Nicolas Sarkozy, said, on Tuesday in Algier, that the UN Security Council resolution (1754 of April 30, 2007) on Sahara is "interesting," denying that this issue is a bone of contention between France and Algeria."
