The United Nations Security Council adopted on Wednesday a resolution calling on the parties in the 32-year-old Sahara conflict to engage in substantive negotiations, and extending, for one year, the mandate of the UN peacekeeping mission in the Sahara (MINURSO).

Several US congressmen voiced, here Monday, their appreciation of the autonomy project, which Morocco proposes for southern provinces.

U.S congrassman for Florida, Lincoln Diaz-Balart said Morocco's plan to grant autonomy to its Southern Provinces -The Sahara- is "an historic opportunity" to resolve the 30-year-old dispute that opposes Morocco to the algeria-backed Polisario separatists over the control of the Sahara.
