Sweden is currently examining the Moroccan intiative for the negotiation of an autonomy status in the Sahara region and will soon announce its position concerning the issue, said, here Thursday, Secretary General of the Swedish parliament, Anders Forsberg.

Within the mission entrusted to the Royal Consultative Council for Saharan Affairs, aiming at defending territorial integrity and national unity of the Kingdom, and in accordance with the provisions of the Cherifian Decree instituting this Council under the number 10.681, issued on Safar 24, 1427, corresponding to March 25, 2006, the Royal Consultative Council for Saharan Affairs held an extraordinary meeting in Rabat.

The Royal Advisory Council for Saharan Affairs held on Monday in Rabat, an emergency session devoted to the negotiation initiative on autonomy submitted by Morocco in April 11 to the current Secretary General of the United Nations.

Moroccan Prime Minister Driss Jettou on Tuesday received the chairman, secretary general and members of the Royal Advisory Council for Saharan Affairs (CORCAS) whom he briefed about Morocco's proposal to grant a substantial autonomy to its Southern provinces (the Sahara) that is due to be presented to the United Nations this Wednesday.
