The Moroccan autonomy proposal is "interesting for the settlement, through dialogue under the aegis of the UN, of the Sahara conflict that has lasted over 35 years, said Tuesday in Rabat, the Mayor of Barcelona Mr. Jordi Hereu, currently visiting the Kingdom.

Former Spanish Prime Minister, Felipe Gonzalez, voiced his support to Morocco's proposal to grant autonomy to its southern provinces, the Sahara, underlining that the initiative will secure specific rights to the Sahrawis under the Moroccan sovereignty.

Morocco voiced, on Wednesday, satisfaction with the adoption by the Fourth Committee of the UN General Assembly of a resolution on the Moroccan Sahara which, by refraining once again from mentioning classical referendum with extreme options, excludes dogmatic approaches some parties continue attempting to revive.

The chairman of the Royal Advisory Council for Saharan Affairs (CORCAS), Mr. Khalihenna Ould Errachid denounced on Monday in Rabat, the recent visit by some people in the Lahmada camps in Tindouf. 

Morocco's permanent representative to the UN, Mohamed Loulichki, said, here Friday, that the Moroccan proposal to grant autonomy to its southern provinces, the Sahara, is a turning point in the process of seeking a political solution to the Sahara issue.
