United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres "has always been in favor of an enhanced dialogue between Morocco and Algeria," said, Wednesday in New York, his spokesman Stéphane Dujarric, in reaction to the announcement by HM King Mohammed VI of the Kingdom's readiness for direct and frank dialogue with Algeria, contained in the Sovereign's Speech to the Nation on the occasion of the 43rd anniversary of the Green March.

As the 2007 legislative elections, the proportion of people's participation in the southern provinces in the voting of June 12, 2009 exceeded the rate recorded at the national level. The majority of Sahrawis across all regions, prefectures and communities went to the polls to say no to separation from the motherland, through voting on the various nationalist parties in the region, to strengthen the fundamental human rights and manage their own future.
